Obituary of Estanfor N. Zavaleta Moreno

Early in the morning of June 27, Estanfor Nildo Zavaleta, better known to family and friends as "Nildo" or "Brother Nildo" entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by all his family: Enith (wife) and children (Andrés, Oscar, and Gisela). After being diagnosed with a terminal illness, he had been hospitalized for several weeks and was daily taken care of by his family. He was also visited or called by many friends. His mind was perfectly sharp until the end and he could properly quote multiple Bible verses and recite some poems. Born in northern Peru, he, his mother, and sisters emigrated to Lima when he was a teenager. He completed all the credits to receive a bachelor's degree in accounting at Universidad Federico Villareal (Lima, Peru) and later emigrated to the United States with his wife and children. And he became a US citizen after taking the English exam at his 84 years of age! We are very sad for his departure and we are going to miss him very much, but we are consoled by the fact that one day, when he was 26 years old, he gave himself to Christ and followed him since then. Always active in a local church, he believed Jesus when he said: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life" (John 5:24). When he was asked a few weeks ago what song we should sing when the Lord calls him, he said, "I have decided to follow Christ. I don't go back." And when I asked him which passage should the sermon be on he said, "Abide in me" (John 15:4). Visitation will be held at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a prayer service will be held 10:00AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Funeral Home, burial will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
