Obituary of Joseph J. La Greca

JOSEPH J. LA GRECA, of Hackensack, died on Sunday October 18, 2009 at the age of 81. Prior to retiring in 1990 he worked for Air Condition Test and Balance Company in New York for 20 years. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #28 in NY, and a parishioner of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Hackensack. Joe was known to many as a Star Defensive Tackle who during the mid 40s began his career at Memorial High School in West New York, with noted coach Joe Coviello. He went on to play for Boston College then Georgetown and had a sign on agreement with the New York Giants upon his graduation, but his career was cut short due to an injury. Beloved husband of Laura (nee Zematis) for 59 years. Loving father of Thomas La Greca and his wife Gina of Jersey City and Katherine Terzo and her husband Kenneth of Maywood. Cherished grandfather of Timothy, Carolyn, Kristin and Danielle. Dearest sister of Judy Scheidle and her husband Ronnie of Woodcliff Lake. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 23, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with burial following at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus. Visiting will be on Thursday from 2 – 4 & 7 - 9 PM. Memorial donations to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, NY, NY 10131 would be appreciated.
