Obituary of Sammie L. Bowman

SAMMIE L. BOWMAN, born March 13, 1945 in Bishopville, South Carolina to the late Lillie Mae Bowman – Montgomery and Robert Lee Montgomery who preceded him in death. Sammie Lee (a.k.a. Sam) departed this life on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in Hackensack, NJ. Sam was educated in the public school system in Lee County where he attended the Dennis High School in Bishopville, South Carolina. Sam had a great love for all sports and played on the football and basketball teams. The Bowman – Montgomery family relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 1965. Sam was employed in the garment district as a fabric cutter at Little Topsell until his retirement. He then worked as a superintendent of Claremont Condominiums Association in Hackensack. Sam was a loving and caring individual that dedicated his life to raising his children and assisting with his siblings after the death of his mother. Sam married Geneva on August 10, 1999 in Bishopville, S.C. and lived in Hackensack, NJ until his passing. Sam leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Geneva of Hackensack; his children, Terrie Harris (Adrian) from Manhattan, NY, Maurice Maynor of South Carolina, and Tenae Bowman; his grandchildren, Kadeem Muhammed, Sr., Emani and Moaja Mayner, Linasia Carlos and Nasir Kersey, the late Rashon Cook, Kadeem Muhammed, Jr.; his step-children, Sandra, Derwin and Cynthia Williams, Cherise Larkin of Brooklyn, NY, Lisa Cook and Lakisha Ford; his sisters, Nancy Montgomery of Dorchester, MA, Lillie Scott of Bishopville, S.C., Peggie Montgomery of Atlanta, GA, and Laura A. Steele, Brooklyn, NY; his brothers, Robert L. Montgomery of Bishopville, James Montgomery of CA, Lawrence and Barbara Montgomery of Atlanta, GA, Charles Patterson of Paterson, NJ, and the late Betty, Gloria, and Willie Montgomery. Wardell and Francis Cook, Barbara Cook of Hackensack, Charles Cook of Bergenfield, Luther and Mamie Wilson, mother-in-law Jessie Cook of Englewood, NJ, Pearl Cook of Lodi, and Jessie M. Cook of NY. Sam is also survived by Aunt Rosa Lee Montgomery, Uncle Bubba Montgomery, and 32 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends. The funeral on Thursday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
