I was really saddened to see Mike had passed away. We were neighbors of the Burkes for a short time and we all went to " St. Marys". Maureen and I were in St. Marys Sodality together. Later on Mike was my sons principal in middle school and I got to say hello and talk about old times. Please know how deeply sorry I am for your loss and you will all be in my thoughts.

Michael, as I write this I am crying. I remember the days when we were kids playing stick ball behind the factory. Oh how I hated you for always winning but you were good! Good at anything you tried. I stopped to see you each time I visited Jersey and called occasionally, not often enough though. You truly were the greatest friend in my life and a roll model that I tried to emulate. As I sit here, with tears in my eyes, I ask the good lord to give you a very special place in His house. You will be missed as you already are.

Mike was a classmate in high school, Seton Hall University, and the Seminary. He was a good friend with a great sense of humor. I am sure that God greeted him with the reward to a special place in heaven for those who cheered for Notre Dame! I will certainly miss him as I recall in my prayers the many great times we had.

When first we met, Mike Burke was the guidance counselor at Hillers School. This was during the mid 70's We both moved onto Hackensack Middle School where Mike eventually graduated to Vice Principal and finally Principal. I remember how he touched students' lives by both trying to understand them and hold them accountable. Many former students have shared his positive influence on their lives.
To me, Mike was both a colleague and friend. I would often come to his office to vent and I found him to be a great listener. Once in a while we would switch roles and he would share with me some of the frustrations that came with his job.
I remember Mike's infectious laugh. I also remember that he always had time for you. You never felt rushed when talking to him.
In the last few years, Mike has attended some of our retiree luncheons. On a few occasions I would pick him up or drive him back. During those drives we would reminisce about the old days.
I will miss Mike.

Please accept my sincere condolences on Mike's passing. We were classmates at Seton Hall Prep, and were ordained together in 1964. We were saddened by his decision to leave the active ministry, and to see him suffer from such poor health as he became older. Currently I am assisting in a Florida parish, but will offer Mass for Mike this week. May he rest in the Peace of Christ! Fr. Tom Ivory
