Obituary of John D. Lydon

Professor John Daniel Lydon of Byram Township, NJ formerly of Oakland and Hackensack, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2015. John was born June 19, 1932 to James Leonard and Cecelia Ann "Riley" Lydon in Hoboken, NJ. John was the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for the state of NJ Department of Human Services Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. In the 70s John founded the Brightstones volunteers whose mission was to enhance the living conditions of psychiatric patents. John taught 32 years at Hackensack high school and had long and distinguished tenors at Fairleigh Dickinson, Centenary, Jersey State, Berkley, and Sussex Community. John served with the US Army 82nd air born division, he was very involved in local, state, and federal politics and was a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. John is survived by sons from his first marriage Bradford James (Patricia) Lydon of Tampa, FL and Daniel John (Carla) Lydon of Chisago, MN; sisters Kathleen (John) Byrnes of PA and Devona Egan of Toms River, NJ; sister-in-law Audrey Lydon of Westwood, NJ; grandchildren Mathew James, Daniel John and Elizabeth Grace of Tampa, FL, first wife Roberta Lydon; dear friend and companion Joan Karp of Hamburg, NJ; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife Ruth W. Lydon in 2007, parents James Leonard and Cecelia Lydon, sisters Cecilia Lynch, Mary Bennie and Zita Rule and brother James Lydon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 12, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Rd, Morristown. The family will receive friends on Sunday December 13, 2015 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
