Dear Mom,
For the holidays, I found the snowman, horse and blanket you made for me years ago for Christmas. I look at them and remember all the great holidays where you cooked and made us all feel loved and safe. I miss you so much Mom but I know you are with Sandy and family and friends and are having a great time in heaven. I just moved to a beautiful home at the beach and have pictures of you and family already up. I retired from teaching and am enjoying not getting up at 5am. My Dearest Mom,
Another year has passed since God came for you. It’s been 3 years now since I have been able to hold and hug you mom. I hope you know how much you have been missed. I miss all your delicious dinners. I miss all the times we went out to dinner and a movie. I miss all the times we spent watching TV together. Every day I tell myself you are in a better place, but that doesn’t make it any easier for me. You are my mom, I am your son, and it was my job to protect you and always keep you safe. I can't believe how fast Thanksgiving came and went and now it is a Christmas Day! I miss all the things you did that made Holidays special: a real Christmas tree with all your beautiful bulbs, making apple pies with you and honey balls with sprinkles and best of all your famous turkey stuffing!!! Merry Christmas Mom and Sandy,
I just sit here and cry. I can't add anymore to my condolences then what I have said and written in the past. All I know is the hurt never goes away. I think more and miss more of you both every day. I love you both so much. It's Christmas Eve and I wish we were together making new memories for the future. Right now the only thing that keeps me going is our past memories. I can see you mom checking on all your pies in the oven, making sure you haven't forgotten anything. Mom, hopefully you remembered to put on the oven. Mom,
As I was decorating my Christmas tree with your Christmas decorations I still have, it reminded me of all the wonderful holidays we spent together and how you made Christmas a time for family, love and sharing. It’s Christmas Eve mom and I am thinking of you and Sandy and how much I love and miss you both. I dropped off some red roses a couple of days ago at the cemetery for you and Sandy. I hope you both liked them. There was some snow and ice; I hope you both are staying nice and warm. I hope you and Sandy are spending Christmas together. During this Thanksgiving holiday I think about how grateful I am to have had you as a mom on this earth because of your love, support, patience and daily example of a loving mom no matter what. My Dearest Mom,
Happy Father's Day mom. As usual another special day we always spent together. Father’s Day will be another reminder of how much you are missed mom. I don’t know how you did it all those years when you wore 2 hats. I do know none of your children could have asked for a better role model than you mom. I always remember you playing catch with me in our backyard, throwing the ball over the clothes line. These memories are indented in me forever. You always had time for all of us, it didn’t matter that you were so tired or had a headache. I remember the times you had to go to school to fight for us because Mrs. Reilly wasn’t being fair on our report cards. You brought in our test scores to show this teacher and the Principal (who happened to be her husband), therefore our grades were changed to coincide with our test scores. That was you just being our mom and dad. I love you mom for everything you did for all of us.
Please tell Sandy how much I love her and miss her. In 4 days it will be 25 years since Sandy went to heaven, and it will be our 27th wedding anniversary. Mom, please give Sandy a many kisses and hugs for me.

I was blessed to have been the daughter of Mary Esquivel. She was a wonderful mom who loved her children and put them before her own needs. As a friend of Mary's devoted son John, I met her during the last years of her life. Even in declining health, Mary personified the term "lady"....always smiling, calm, serene and, of course, beautiful. John, you did a remarkable and selfless job caring for your mother.
