David was our accountant for nearly 20 years. He supported me through divorce and financial struggles. He was always kind and patient. He had my cmplete trust and it was always a pleasure that made doing taxes something to look forward to to catch up with dear David.
It was a tragedy to hear of his illness. I recall we were working on an extension and I asked him could he complete them or should I find someone else. I wanted him to know I would do whichever HE wanted. If doing them gave him meaning and structure to his days fine. I could be patent. if he thought he could or didn't want to that was fine too. He choose to continue.
The last conversation I had he told me he was give 6 month to live. I lost my mother 44 yrs ago to a rain tumor and that was her prognosis. It hit me hard and my heart went out to David and this tragedy.
He was not able to complete my taxes and soon just stopped responding to my inquiries. I mostly wanted to say it was ok and I just converse with him about life and death without taxes. I regret I was unable to have another voice to voice with him.
The screen went blank, the calls were unanswered, the post returned to sender.
I have been in mourning searching the papers for whether he passed or not. I was mourning his loss in any case. As sad as it is to see the article in the Inquirer, it gave me some closure. IT just tells you that even the most modest people can have deep impacts on each of us. David was a true man of integrity. He held little or no malice to anyone. I hold his strong, gentile spirit in my mind often as a reminder of a steady way to proceed through this difficult , fleeting yet wonderful thing called life.
In Consolation,
Laura

I feel like I knew David personally for years, even though we have "met" only online and on the phone. He was a longtime contributor to Tax Almanac and TaxProTalk, both forums for tax professionals, and he was an ultimate professional, generously and willingly sharing with us his many years of experience and knowledge. His style was unmatched, and posts on the TPT forum are evidence of the love and respect we had for him.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

We enjoyed David's sardonic wit and honesty whenever we met with him in his Philadelphia offices over the last thirty-some years and via email and phone once he moved to New Jersey. We know how deeply the tragic loss of his 13 year old daughter affected him and though we only had contact with him during tax season, could sense a profound change in him. We felt completely secure in handing over our intimate financial records to David. And though we knew some of his other clients, we knew we could trust his discretion. Even when asking after other clients he knew were our friends, it was never gossip. Just friendly inquiry. He was truly an honorable man and we are so sorry he had to suffer through this illness. Walter Naedele's obit in today's Philadelphia Inquirer is a nice tribute to David and we were glad to see him so honored.

David was the kindest person I have ever met. It has been a privilege to know him even tangentially. He was like my 'tax priest.' Scrupulously honest, exemplary in handing infinite detail, calming in times of fiscal crisis. Besides doing my taxes so many years, he was one of the great human beings EVER. David loved stories, telling them, listening to them. And he loved writing. Many of his tax clients were indeed writers. And, somewhat paradoxically he himself was exceptionally talented as an essayist as well. David has been fortunate to have a wonderful wife, Pam, who has been so supportive to him, he loved his family, he loved his pets. He is irreplaceable. I can't believe he's gone. I will never forget him. God Bless you, David Lidle, DLSheepdog, DethnTaxez. And my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his family.
