Obituary of Arthur C. Helmer
ART HELMER. On June 27th, Art Helmer passed away peacefully at HUMC Pascack Valley. He succumbed to multiple illnesses. Art was born in Baltimore, MD on January 10th of 1933. He loved classical music and the radio prompting him to be a radio announcer and electrical engineer as a career. In his youth he worked for RCA in Camden moving later to New York where he was employed at the CBS Television Network for about 21 years and finally with AT&T in Paramus where he retired in 2009. He had a beautiful announcing voice and put it to good use during his lifetime, making voiceover commercials and playing/announcing classical music at WPAT and at WOR-TV. He was a member of Sag/Aftra. Art is survived by his devoted wife Roberta whom he met at CBS in the 1980's and his sister Marlene Duke of Baltimore, MD. They lived in Washington Township for 31 and 1/2 years. Art was a kind and generous person who loved cats. There was no animal he would turn away if it was needing a home and food. He will be dearly missed. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, July 7th, 2016 from 11 AM - 1 PM with a prayer service at 12:30 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Art's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
