Obituary of Catherine M. Daly

Catherine (Kit) M. Daly (nee Herrick) 96 of Hackensack, (formerly of Hendersonville, NC and Westwood NJ) passed away on Wednesday) at home. Born in the Bronx, NY in 1926, to William Francis and Margaret Jane Herrick (nee Kearney). She was predeceased by her two brothers: (John) Jack Herrick and (William) Bill Herrick. She moved to Riverdale, NY in 1929, and went to St. Margaret's Elementary School and then Cathedral High School from which she graduated in 1943. After graduating from Cathedral, she went to work for the Guarantee Trust Company in the fine bookkeeping department. She worked many other jobs before retiring from Pascack Hills High School in 1986 after working in the library for 16 years. She was married in 1948 to Thomas I. Daly who predeceased her. They were married for 61 years at the time of his death in 2009. She lived in Riverdale, NY, until moving to River Vale, NJ, in 1950. She moved to Westwood, NJ, in1958 and lived there until moving to Hendersonville, NC. in 1988. Catherine is survived by her five children: Thomas (Jeannine) of Tucson, AZ/Bluffton SC, Brian (Shelly) of Decatur GA; Tim of Hackensack NJ; Eileen (Fred) Prybol of Milton, GA, and Christine of Hackensack, NJ. She was predeceased by her son Steven (Anne) of Scarborough, ME, and her daughter, Maureen of Hackensack, NJ. She is further survived by her thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. with her tenth due in September. The love for family was paramount in her life. She was a superb role model for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and for her many nieces and nephews and she was loved by all. She placed great value on her many friendships and her solid faith in God's goodness and love. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a time and date to be determined at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Westwood, NJ. She will be interred at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
