Obituary of Emma J. Avanzato
Emma J. Avanzato of Hackensack passed away peacefully, with family by her side on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the age of 101. Originally from Texas with a strong desire to see the bright lights of the big city of NY, which she accomplished upon marrying her beloved husband of 68 years, Arthur. After living in Brooklyn for 5 years, they moved to Hackensack where Emma thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker and a loving Mom. She was the first to volunteer for school events for her children, she became a Cub Scout den mother, she was an avid gardener, and an accomplished artist. To add to her many talents she was an outstanding baker! She baked for all occasions which included Wedding cakes, and several different desserts that were featured on a few local restaurant menus. She was an independent thinker, loving, creative, supportive, and always a good friend to others. She was a member and supporter of Holy Trinity Church, their Leisure Club and the Rosary Society. She was a loving mother to John Avanzato and his wife Liz of Warwick, NY, Irene FitzGerald and her husband Jeff of Bolivia, NC, cherished grandmother of Chris, Tracey and her husband Mark Allen, Elizabeth and her husband Mark Cintron, John, Jess and her husband Chris Collins, Jake and his wife Elsa MacRae, adored great grandmother of Meghan, Kevin, Blake, Ava, Kayla, and Jackson, dearest sister-in-law of Lillian Orsak of Texas, and two very dedicated and caring health caregivers, Antonnette and Carolyn. The Funeral will begin on Friday, September 2, at 8:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack, with burial following at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM for visitation at the funeral home.
