Obituary of Norman Thomson
NORMAN "BILL" THOMSON , of Hackensack, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, December 6, 2012, after a brief illness, at Hackensack University Medical Center, at the age of 88 years. Born in Paterson, he attended Hawthorne High School. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S, Schenck. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he joined the Hackensack Police Department. Prior to retiring he attained the rank of Captain in charge of the Juvenile Division. Norman spent his summers at his home in Long Beach Island where he enjoyed fishing, clamming and crabbing from his boat along with his nightly card games with family and friends. Norman will be remembered for his sharp wit, life lessons and words of wisdom. He was a member of the Elks Lodge # 658 of Hackensack. the Tin Can Sailors Association of Destroyer Vets, and the Youth Guidance Council of Hackensack. Beloved husband of the late Grace G. (nee Grimaldi). Devoted father of Glenn Thomson and his wife Cindy of Totowa and Alice Coppola and her husband Frank of Hawthorne. Loving grandfather of Matthew Coppola and his wife Sabrina of Hawthorne. Cherished great grandfather of Olivia Grace. Prayer service on Tuesday, December 11th, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with cremation following at Cedar Lawn Crematory in Paterson. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM
