My memories of Msgr.Hubba go back to when he was a Transitional Deacon at St.Mary's in Nutley and later when he served as Pastor there for 12 years. He remains well-loved by people in that parish. One instance of his sense of service that I will never forget extends back to 2003 when my wife took a nasty fall down the stairs at home, fracturing both femor bones. We were taken to the Trauma Center at University Hospital in Newark. Once there, she was prepared for surgery and I called the rectory to ask our Pastor the name of the Chaplain there. Fr. Hubba gave me that name and 30-minutes latter he too appeared by my side in the waiting room. He remained there until a long and complicated surgery was complete, offering prayers and support all the while. The operation was successful. Fr. Hubba's kindness and empathy was characteristic of his interactions with others in need.
Resto Nella Pace, Msgr. David. Our Savior has been waiting for you.

As altar boys at Holy Trinity in the early 80’s, my brothers and I have nothing but fond memories of Father David. We were blessed to have had him in our parish.

David was a close friend in the seminary and in the ministry. I always recall him as being kind, compassionate, soft spoken and truly Christ like. He impacted so many lives and so will be missed.
He has gone to his reward now and what he has left us is our reward certainly.

From Classmate Dr. Anthony J. '66 and wife Sharyn Szulczewski:
I remember Dave from his days as a member of the Prep's Debating Team; and how true is the caption under his picture in the yearbook's debating team page...."I'd challenge you to a battle of wits, but I never fight an unarmed man." How descriptive of his sense of humor. Dave was one who was willing to go the extra mile and to do anything that was asked of him. You just don't find many like him anymore.
From Sharyn:
"I met Dave for the first and only time at the Class of '66 40th Reunion. When one was in his presence, it was obvious that he was a truly spiritual human being who was called to serve God. Dave was a kind, sensitive person who always listened attentively to others.
A Mass is being said for Dave on March 6, 2023, at
St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Dunellen, NJ.

Monsignor Hubba was always so kind to my parents, Joseph and Florence Beritelli. He celebrated their 40th anniversary mass and renewal of vows and celebrated my father’s funeral mass. My mother always kept Monsignor Hubba in her prayers. May the perpetual light shine upon him, and may he rest in God’s peace.

I met Monsignor Dave at my Grandmother’s (Marie Hubba, pre deceased by John Hubba) Mass of Christian Burial in Wellsboro PA. That was before my participation in RCIA at St John the Apostle in VA Beach in 2019 to join the Catholic Church. I attribute some of that calling to Dave’s faithful prayer from afar. Although a distant relative, I will always love and admire Dave for his lifelong devotion and love of Christ. I’m glad he’s home.

Death took Msgr. Hubba away; but his unselfish good works, his sincere commitment to his many friends, his service to his parishioners, his devotion to his faith, his piety, his genuine caring, his counsel, and his wisdom survives him - it does not die with him.
He lives forever in our reality, in our minds, in our consciousness and in our eternity.
If service to his community, and to God, are the dues that we pay to be members of the human race, then his dues have been paid in full.
