Obituary of Gladys Kalen

Gladys (Becker) Kalen (nee Pladl), aka Dottie Becker, 92, of Saddle Brook, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023. Gladys was born on July 26, 1931 to Helen and William Paldl in Manhattan, NY. In 1952, Gladys met her first husband George Becker, in the Bronx. Gladys and George had 4 children. In 1969, they moved their family to Saddle Brook, NJ. In 1973, Gladys became a widow at the age of 40; leaving her to raise 4 children and taking over the family business in the South Bronx. In 1980, she went on to marry William Kalen and continued her successful journey. Gladys was predeceased by both of her husbands George Becker and William Kalen, her son-in-law, Wayne Rochford and daughter-in-law Susan Becker. She is survived by her children Thomas Becker, Georgianne (John) Chiusolo, Denise Rochford and Lynne (Gary) Ward; her grandchildren, Anthony (Gina), Jason (Jessica), Justin (Amanda), Garrison (Jeni), Brittany (Joe), Lyndsay (Nick) and Tyler; her great grandchildren Alexandria, Victoria, Antonia, Anthony, Christian, Giovanna, Lyla, Griffin, Jordyn, Baker, JJ and Morgan. Gladys will forever be remembered by her family and friends for her love, generosity, toughness, wise sense of humor and tales from the past. Services will be held at G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601, on Thursday, April 27th between 10am-12pm. A prayer service will be held at 11:30am.
