Obituary of John G. Calandrillo
John G. Calandrillo, 90, of Saddle Brook, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023. He was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church, Saddle Brook. Prior to retiring, he worked at United Merchants Textile, Teaneck, NJ, IBM as a computer programmer, he and his brother Anthony owned and operated a hair salon in Fort Lee, NJ. During the 1980's John and his wife owned Calandrillo's Deli in Emerson, NJ and then went on to work for Hillsdale, NJ Board of Education and most recently Saddle Brook, NJ Board of Education driving a school bus and custodian. John was a United States Navy Veteran, serving as a medic during the Korean War. John led a simple life based on his faith and love of family. He enjoyed music, especially, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Karen Carpenter. He had an appreciation for cars and not long ago he found he had a hidden talent for drawing. Beloved husband of the late Gloria (née Penque) February 2023 . Cherished father of John Calandrillo and wife Linda of Whiting, NJ, Kim Meyer and husband Fred of Fairlawn,NJ and Todd Calandrillo and wife Rute of Saddle Brook, NJ. Loving grandfather of Matthew Calandrillo and wife Justine, Alexa Calandrillo and fiancé Joel Chaparro, Thiago Gehrke, Priscilla daSilva and the late Christopher Calandrillo. He is survived by his sister Anna Cicchetti, brother Anthony Calandrillo and brother in law George Dante. Dear brother of the late Lenore Ferrazano,brother in law of Robert Cicchetti, Adeline Deo(Joseph), Angelo "Sonny" Penque(Millie), Mary Gentempo(Joseph), Arline Risky(Edward), Ann Marie Dante, and Emil Penque. Loving uncle of Joanne McKnight, Rosemary Megariotis, David Penque(Patricia), Scott Penque ,Victoria Park( William), George Dante (Heidi), and the late Marie Gentempo, as well as many great nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 28, 2023, 10:00am at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 488 Saddle River Road, Saddle Brook, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, River St., Hackensack. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, July 27, 2023, 4:00 -7:00 pm for visitation at the G.
