Obituary of Lea Asala

Lea Asala of Little Ferry, 91 years of age, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Lea was born in Pietrelcina, Italy on February 27th to the late Vincenzo and Dominica Pilla. Lea was a lunch lady at Jackson Avenue Elementary School in South Hackensack, NJ. She loved being able to serve the young children in the school and see their smiling faces every day. In Lea's younger days, she would enjoy tending to her garden and the flowers in her backyard. Her and her late husband were also lifelong members of the Societa Italiana Unita (Italian Society Club). Lea took the role as matriarch of the family with great honor and dignity. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She experienced great delight and joy every time she was able to see her great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Asala and son Joseph Asala. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Constance Penabad, her grandchildren, Anthony Asala, Angela Asala, Dominique Patterson and Brian Penabad and great grandchildren Hunter Patterson, Carlos Penabad and Dal Penabad. You will always be a part of our lives Nonna, and we miss you so much. Please keep an eye on us all from heaven! The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 13th from 4-8pm at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home., 397 Union Street, Hackensack, New Jersey 07601. The family will also receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 14th, for a funeral mass planned at 10AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 49 Vreeland Ave, Hackensack, NJ 07601. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory, 300 Soldier Hill RD, Township of Washington, NJ 07676.
