Obituary of Marie N. Cafiero

Marie N. Cafiero (nee Garafalo) passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, at 96 years old. Born in Hackensack, NJ on January 24, 1928, Marie lived in Paterson for most of her life and is leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and tradition that will be forever remembered by those who knew her. Marie is predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Joseph Cafiero, her parents Salvatore and Frances Garafalo, brothers Michael and Gabriel, sister Mildred, as well as many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. Marie is survived by her twin brothers, Robert & Salvatore Garafalo (BobbyJun). Marie was a devoted mother to James Slater and his wife, Mercy and mother-in-law of Teresa Slater. Loving grandmother of Jennifer Slater and Jose. Marie was also a great-grandmother of David Slater, Nathan Pedroza, Gabriel, Mia and Gianna Camacho. She was a loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as a Godmother to many who she loved dearly and treated as her own. Marie was employed for 35 1/2 years at Macy's in Willowbrook, a job that she truly enjoyed and loved. She treasured going out to eat, cooking, making her Sunday sauce with meatballs and could always be found laughing and smiling at all family celebrations. Marie loved her family more than anything and looked forward to big gatherings, holidays, vacations, good times at the shore, Atlantic City trips and listening to her favorite crooner Frank Sinatra who was singing to her until the end. She will be deeply missed, and her spirit will live on in those who loved her. The Funeral will begin from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, on Monday, April 29th at 9:30 AM. The Mass of Requiem will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Episcopal Church, 72 Lodi Street, Hackensack at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Park Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
