Obituary of Harry S. DeBlasio
Harry S. DeBlasio, a lifelong resident of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Harry was a firefighter for the City of Hackensack Fire Department for 25 years, where he drove Engine One and was known for his outstanding cooking skills, especially chili, among his fellow firefighters. Harry also operated his own landscaping business for over forty years where his free form sculpting of shrubs was highly regarded by all. Harry was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War receiving two Bronze Stars, serving as a cook throughout his Army service. Harry was known as a kind, generous and caring man by all those who he encountered, in his neighborhood, markets and travels about town. He loved sitting on his porch greeting his neighbors and friends that drove by daily. Always ready to talk and regale you with his stories. He was the beloved husband of Virginia M. (nee Azzato) for 65 years before she passed away in 2019 on Thanksgiving Day. Devoted father of Gary DeBlasio of Manahawkin, Gail Cortese and her husband Peter of Lincoln Park, and Gaylin DeBlasio. Cherished grandfather of Christina, Nicole and Imad Ghandour, Christoper Gold and Lauren Gold. Adored great grandfather of Gia Rose and Ella Kai Ghandour. He will be truly missed by all. Family and friends will be received from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 49 Vreeland Avenue, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at the church with Procession and Committal to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hackensack.
