Obituary of Joseph W. Melber

Joseph Walter Melber, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 18th, 2024, at the age of 71. Joseph was predeceased by his beautiful and loving wife, Barbara E. Melber, Parents, Joseph F. and Elizabeth Melber, Barbera F. Cantinieri, brothers Cylde Easton Jr. and Keith Melber and a Son-In-Law, Andrew Sonner. Joseph is survived by his four children, Erica E. Melber-Williams, Joseph F. (Melissa) Melber, Melinda B. (Christopher Woortman) Sonner, and Aubrea A. (Peter) Walsh. Two stepdaughters, Maria (Ross) Howe, Kathleen (Logan) Zanki. Eight Sibling's, Kim Stockwell, Ruth (Karl) Stapel, Richard (Rachel) Melber, Dea Easton, Lorea Easton, Denise Easton, Kevin Easton, and Elvin Easton. Fifteen Grandchildren Ashley Hill, Kaila Whitfield, Felicia Williams, Jasmine Williams, Chistopher Sonner, Brooke Sonner, Amelia Melber, Isabella Melber, Londyn Zanki, Olivia Melber, Maximus Zanki, Lindsey Sonner-Woortman, Lucas Walsh, Macie Howe, and Lincoln Walsh. Two Greatgrandchildren Aaliyah Hill and Kyrie Hall. Joseph graduated Ocean County College on the Dean's List in 1988 with an Associate in Applied Sciences Degree, with a concentration in Business Administration. Professionally, Joseph worked as a Forman for the Hackensack Roofing Co. in Hackensack, NJ, after suffering a back injury, he held various Management positions, until his later years when he dispatched for the Leisure Hack taxi company. In July of 1972, Joseph married Hazel Perez and together, they raised their three children Erica, Joseph, and Melinda. In December of 1989, Joseph married Barbara E. Strutton in a ceremony that remains a cherished memory for all who attended. Together they raised their last child Aubrea. Joseph was hard working, energetic, and loved a challenge. He had a love for music and found solace in it. Some of his other hobbies included reading, especially astrology, fishing, and watching and attending all major sporting events, especially football. He was well read, incredibly intelligent, sarcastic and witty. His generosity extended beyond his family, as he was kind and remembered by everyone he met. He never gave up on anything and encouraged everyone he knew to always give 100%. Josephs legacy will be carried on by his adored grandchildren. Joseph will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A service to celebrate Joseph's life will be on Wednesday August 21, 2024, 9:00am to 12:00pm at the G Thomas Gentile funeral home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. A prayer service will be at 12:00 Noon with internment to follow at 1:15pm at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, 234 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652.
