Obituary of Erna D. Vasios
ERNA D. VASIOS, (nee Daus), age 92, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Heathwood, Chestnut Hill, MA. Born 1920 in Riesenburg, Germany to mother Anna Daus and father Hermann Daus, Erna immigrated with her parents and younger sister Elsa to the United States in 1923, arriving at Ellis Island on July 2, and subsequently residing in Teaneck, NJ. In 1941, Erna married W. George Vasios of Hackensack, NJ, where they lived for the next 42 years, before retiring to Crestwood Village in Whiting, NJ and enjoying another 26 years of active lifestyle and new friendships. In Hackensack, Erna pursued her talent in oil painting as an amateur artist, while raising her children Kristine and George. She was later employed for 20 years by Hackensack Hospital as a Patient Coordinator in the Radiology Department. For the past three and one half years Erna had been a resident of Brookline and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, during which time she displayed admirable courage, a strong will to survive, and a renewed sense to engage with life, evidenced in part by her many works of newly-created art, trips to local restaurants and museums, and participation in many family and resident-based activities. Erna was predeceased by her husband W. George, two sisters, Elsa and Anna, and one brother, Herman. Surviving are her daughter, Kristine Vasios of Brookline, MA, son George Vasios, his wife Claire, and granddaughter Alexa, also of Brookline, MA, and many other loving relatives. Visiting hours will be Saturday July 7, from 10:00 -11:45 AM with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 Noon at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to The Golden Living Center – Heathwood, and mailed to 188 Florence Street, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467: Attn. Jesica Morales, ADC, Activities Director.
