Obituary of Alphonse A. Casamenti

ALPHONSE A. CASAMENTI, of Hackensack, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 19, 2014, after a very long illness with cancer, at the age of 78 years. Al was a lifelong resident of Hackensack and a summer resident of Waretown for 30 years. After graduating from Hackensack High School and attending Rutgers University, he served three years in the United States Army with the USO in Germany. Music and piano was Al's passion as he performed in Rock and Roll Bands in the 50"s and 60's and entertained dinner guests over past years at restaurants in both Hackensack and Waretown. Al was a creative entrepreneur opening and operating "Uncle Albert's Pub", "Room 124" ( a luncheonette across the high school), and "First Base" (a pub and restaurant) all in Hackensack. He owned and operated A & C Services and Landscape Headquarters Inc. serving residents and businesses in Bergen County for many years. He was also a Commissioner with the Hackensack Housing Authority for the past ten years. Fishing, hunting and sports memorabilia collecting occupied most of his retirement years and he was very often seen fishing with friends on his boat "Piano Man" off the Jersey Shore. Beloved son of the late Alphonse and Violet (nee Sanzari) Casamenti. Devoted father of Chip Casamenti and his wife Lisa of Paramus, Allison Casamenti of Highland Mills, NY, and Phillip Casamenti of Toms River. Cherished grandfather of Alexa and Tyler. Dearest brother of Arnold "Arnie" Casamenti and his wife Geni of Hewitt and Robert "Bob" Casamenti and his wife Karen of Paramus. Al will also be missed by his nephew Arnie Jr. and his niece Gina, as well as Maryanne and daughter Brianna, Gail and Roseann, and his many dear friends of many years. The funeral on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 9:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity R. C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 - 8 PM. The family prefers that in lieu of flowers that you honor his memory with a memorial donation to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
