Obituary of Michael J. D'Arminio
MICHAEL "MICKEY" J. D"ARMINIO , a lifelong resident of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the age of 83 years. Prior to retiring, he was co-owner and contractor for 40 years at D'Arminio and Sons of Hackensack. He served his country during the Korean War being honorably discharged from the United States Army. Mickey served on the City of Hackensack City Council from 1969-1973, Mayor of Hackensack from 1973-1975 and the Commissioner of the Hackensack Housing Authority for the past 25 years. He was a member and Past President of Hackensack Chapter of Unico. In 1990 he was elected the President of Unico National and in 2005 he was awarded the highest and most meritorious award bestowed to a Unican, the Dr. Anthony Vastola award for service above and beyond the call of duty. He was a parishioner at St. Francis R. C. Church of Hackensack where he was a trustee for 50 years, past president of the Holy Name Society and Socialites and a member of the Ushers Society. He was a member of V.F.W. Post # 8005 of South Hackensack, the Hackensack Troast Athletic Club and the Boat Jumpers. Beloved husband for 60 years of May M. (nee Polifronio). Devoted father of Michael J. D'Arminio and Donna of South Hackensack and Richard D'Arminio and Manuela of Ramsey. Cherished grandfather of Danielle, Kristen, Nicole and Erica. Adored great grandfather of Madysen (the apple of his eye). Loving brother of Lee D'Arminio of Hackensack, Angelo D'Arminio of Paramus, Angela Donaldson of Easton, PA. and the late Carmen D'Arminio and Anthony D'Arminio. Dear brother in law of Faye D'Arminio, Flo D'Arminio, Mickey Squillace and Joseph Polifronio. Also loved by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. The funeral on Tuesday, May 28th at 9:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis R. C. Church, 50 Lodi Street, Hackensack at 11:00 AM with entombment following at Hackensack Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday 2-5 and 7-9 PM.
