Obituary of Erminia M. Giachino
ERMINIA M. BERLUCCHI GIACHINO, passed away peacefully, January 7, 2015, at her home in Cedar Crest, Pompton Plains, New Jersey, at the age of 97. She was an extraordinary woman: a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Loyal and supportive, she gave unconditionally, to family and friends alike, selflessly, with pleasure, and with all her heart. She had an infectious joie de vivre that always made people smile, feel better, and see the brighter side of life. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. The only child of Ernesto and Gina Cebrelli Berlucchi, she was born in New York and tragically lost her mother to the Spanish Flu when she was a very young baby. In 1924, her father married Malvinas Morali and Erminia grew up to be the fine woman she was, in the company of her Dad, her stepmother, her stepsister Ida, her stepbrother Ernest and her two aunts Maria and Eugenia. In 1940, after a wonderfully romantic courtship, she married Remo August Giachino, the son of Ferdinand and Pauline Giachino, and worked by her husband’s side in the family business Vinvino Wine Company in New York, where her fluent French and Italian was only one, of her many assets. While working in New York, she and Remo raised three boys, first in Union City, New Jersey and then in Teaneck. Erminia is predeceased by her husband Remo who died in 2013 and a son Freddy who died in 1949.She is survived by her three sons, Richard and his wife Deborah of Nobleboro, Maine, Paul and his wife Cindy of Kinnelon and Douglas and his wife Claire of Wyckoff, granddaughter Lia, grandson Gus and his wife Estelle and their son Desmond Remo – Erminia’s great-grandson, her sister Ida Cardinale and her husband Tony of Caroga Lake, NY and her brother, Ernest Berlucchi and his wife Sophie of Bethpage, Long Island.
